Children & Family Ministries

Children are valued by God (Matthew 19:14), and at SUMC, we value children and their families. We believe that parents and families are the primary teachers of children (Deuteronomy 6:6-7) and we value and support parents in the spiritual nurturing of children in the home, church, and community. It is our desire to be a valuable partner with you in the Christian formation of your children.

In this ministry, we offer a variety of activities for Christian faith development and fellowship. We welcome new faces at all our classes and events!

Have your child experience the excitement of God’s love in our engaging Sunday School program. Our loving staff embraces the word of God and nurtures children and youth’s spiritual growth in a warm, friendly, and creative environment.

Boys and girls in grades 4 through 12 are encouraged to assist the pastors during the 10:30 worship service. For more information in enrolling your child as an acolyte, crucifer, or lay reader, please contact the church office. All interested children must complete the required acolyte and crucifer training; and for lay readers, the expectations of the lay reader coordinator and senior pastor.

Welcome to Boy Scout Troop 856! We are a Scout Troop that has been in continuous existence since 1955! We are very proud Troop, especially proud of the 94 scouts who have attained the highest rank in Scouting, that of EAGLE SCOUT!

Troop 856 is an active Troop with a year-round program. We meet every Tuesday evening starting at 7:30 PM and ending at 9:00 PM in the social hall of Springfield United Methodist Church. We are sponsored by the Springfield United Methodist Men.

There are many options for children to be involved in worship or to participate in age appropriate activities. Buzz Words and Children's Moment are directed toward children during worship service, and Children's Church is provided for younger children.

Springfield United Methodist Church is dedicated to providing a caring, safe, and clean environment for the youngest children who come to SUMC. Our goal is to communicate to children how much they are loved by our Lord through attentive, professional, high-quality care.

Our Nursery and Toddler Room is staffed by loving, paid professionals and is available Sundays from 8:00 AM to 11:45 AM, and during special church events. The nursery and the adjacent restroom are equipped with diaper changing facilities.

Whether you are familiar with the word of God, or this is your first experience, you are moving forward in your faith journey. God’s word is your armor of protection against evil, but having his word close to your heart, memorized, ready to use, in times of need, is your sharpened sword. Through SHIELD, you will be armed and ready to have God’s word at hand when you need it most.

At SUMC, SUM Youth are growing in the love of Christ. Students in 7th-12th grades get to know Jesus, share his love, and grow together while developing lifelong friendships. Join us most Sundays at 6pm.

Too young for youth group? Too old for young children’s activities? T.A.G. is a special group for friends in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade to get together once a month to discuss faith issues and participate in fun events.

T.A.G. events are generally scheduled the first weekend of the month on Sundays from 3 pm to 5 pm. The parent or guardian of an enrolled T.A.G. participant must lend a hand in the coordination efforts of one monthly event.

This year children and adults will dive and  “Dare to Go Deep with God” at OPERATION OVERBOARD! VBS dates: June 25-29. Read the upcoming April Newsletter for registration dates.
